Maya Yoga With Nicki Doane - Ashtanga Fusion Vinyasa Yoga 4 June to 5 June 2011, KL ysnergy Hub
Greetings from Maya Yoga.
Devotion to yoga and the desire to share with and give back to the world are what motivate the teaching of Maya Yoga with Nicki Doane. Yoga is spirit in
action, and as Nicki teaches, she inspires people to find a place of spirit inside themselves, recognizing the profound connection between the self and spirit.
Nicki has been studying yoga in India for years and has been deeply influenced by the teachings of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and B.K.S. Iyengar. Her unique approach to vinyasa yoga strengthens all aspects of your being through dynamic structural alignment, conscious breathing, and practical yogic philosophy;
helping students find the deeper life of yoga. Nicki strives to teach each student that yoga is about being fully present in the moment and discovering that we are truly all One. One Love. One People. One Heart. One Destination - Our Higher Self.
Nicki Doane had a wanderlust that led her to India in 1991 to study yoga. She went to Mysore to meet Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and immediately realized she had
found her teacher. Nicki started teaching in 1992. She cites Pattabhi Jois, along with Eddie Modestini, Gabriella Giubilaro, and Tim Miller among her most
influential teachers. She is an authorized teacher of Ashtanga Yoga. Although rooted in Ashtanga, Nicki's teaching goes beyond the traditional. Her vinyasa
classes combine asana, pranayama, philosophy, and poetry.
Nicki’s emphasis is on awareness: creating integrity within each pose that can be carried beyond the mat into daily life. Nicki teaches at yoga studios and conferences across the globe and is featured in two Ashtanga Yoga DVD’s from Gaiam Inc. and recently produced her own series of Maya Yoga DVD’s in collaboration with her husband Eddie Modestini. Nicki lives in Sebastopol, California with her husband, Eddie Modestini. Together, Eddie and Nicki co-direct Maya Yoga Studios in both California and Maui, HI.

Session 1: Intro to Maya Yoga Vinyasa Fusion 9.30am to 12noon
This class will be an introduction to Vinyasa Fusion, suitable for all levels,
focusing on opening the front body and strengthening the back. Using
Suryanamaskar (Sun Salutations) to slowly build heat and standing poses to
reconnect you with the earth, we will move through a Vinyasa style practice
that will leave you feeling recharged and stress free! We will cover in detail all
the lunge work that Maya Yoga is famous for. Special attention will be paid to
cultivating awareness in our hands and feet in order to ground us more deeply
to the earth. Class will conclude with backbends and inversions. Learn to create
safety and strength by applying basic alignment principles to a Vinyasa style
Session 2: Suryanamaskar C 1.30pm to 3.30pm
This dynamic flowing sequence of standing postures, originally created by Tim
Miller of Encinitas, CA, is the root of all “flow yoga” classes taught in America
today. The beauty of the class lies in its spontaneity: it is always different!
Depending on students’ needs and backgrounds, the postures are linked together
using a vinyasa sequence and conscious breathing. Dynamic backbends will
complete the flow. This is an extremely fun class and can go very deep!
Session 3 : Backbends to Extend the Spine and Expand your Consciousness! 3.45pm to 5.45pm
The practice of backbending can be exhilarating, terrifying, and incredibly fulfilling. Whatever reasons you come for, whether it is to conquer some fears
or to increase your capacity for expansion, this class is for you. Eddie and Nicki
have a wonderful way of preparing the body, mind and spirit in a safe,
supportive way. You will be amazed at what you can achieve with the proper
support and conscious preparation. This will be a strong class.

Session 3: Hip Openers 9.30am to 12noon
Cultivate your seat of awareness and learn to sit comfortably for the rest of your
life. Since yoga is all about creating and sustaining balance in our lives, this class
is the perfect complement to a strong vinyasa yoga practice. This class will be
more reflective in nature as we find our way into various postures, usually on
the floor, but not limited to, and stay there to see what happens. In order to
explore the more advanced poses that yoga has to offer, you have to open your
hips. Come prepared to dive deep as we provide you with valuable information
for your yoga practice to carry into the rest of your life.
Session 2: Maya Yoga Inversions 1.30pm to 3.30pm
In vinyasa yoga there is a strong emphasis on standing postures and flow. But
when do we get to go upside down? Inversions are crucial for balancing your
day and managing your life. They are rejuvenating, energizing and extremely
therapeutic when practiced with awareness.
Session 3: Arm Balances: Learn to Stand on Your Own Two Hands 3.45pm to 5.45pm
The group of poses known as arm balances bring up all kinds of emotions for
people. Fear, Insecurity, Frustration, Fear. Did we mention that one yet?! In
this class we will work with these poses to look fear in the face. Learning how to
go upside down can be a very empowering experience for everyone. We will
work on handstands against the wall and in the middle of the room, depending
on your level of comfort. In this class, anyone that wants to do a handstand,
will! We will cover many arm balances, from the more simple “baby Balances”
to the more advanced full arm balances. This class promises to be fun and an
opportunity to conquer some fears and let them go!
