TEACHING FROM THE SOURCE - YOGILATES® TEACHER TRAINING (23 hours)
In this module, focus is on teaching methodology, and on learning how to present an integrative system as a unique style of yoga that is both challenging and rewarding to all levels of students. Following and moving on from Jonathan's book, instructors will learn how to prepare students physically and mentally to receive all the benefits from both yoga and Pilates. In addition, Yogilates training includes the functional and aesthetic qualities of dance movements to inspire and educate the student with new movement skills. Material presented includes progressive sequencing and technique, and gives instructors the full format, alignment principles and specific teaching directives that distinguish Yogilates as a unique system. Instructors will also be directed to consider their "intention" as teachers, and to recognize their own holistic lifestyle and awareness.
Detail study will cover the following: - Breathing efficiently and effectively for support and enhanced awareness. - Specific alignment parameters and instructional cueing for all Yogilates exercises - Modifications and protocols for common conditions and restrictions, and use of yoga strap, blocks, blankets, and Pilates ring. - Sequencing and class design that enhances effectiveness, safety, and enjoyment of students training in the Yogilates style - How to observe and guide with both word and gentle touch.
This course will train instructors how to adapt a Vinyasa style of yoga (moving with the breath) to floor and standing routines that integrate Pilates matwork, hatha yoga, and some dance based exercises so as to maximize flow and fun. Generous time is allowed for practical teaching experience and questions. Course concludes with a written exam for instructors who wish a Teacher Certificate in Yogilates to teach this trademarked class.

His athletic training began with gymnastics, diving and skiing and later progressed to classical and modern dance. After spending ten years as a professional dancer and choreographer, Jonathan returned to sports training competing in triathlons and becoming a certified personal trainer in 1988.
By 1995, his strong commitment to intelligent exercise led Mr. Urla to the teachings of Joe and Clara Pilates and to an in-depth study of hatha yoga. Becoming fully certified in Pilates, studying both at Power Pilates and The Pilates Studio in New York, Jonathan is now recognized for his refined approach to Pilates technique. As a veteran practitioner of yoga, Jonathan began to notice a symmetry between the two techniques, both in their mental and physical discipline. His desire for a unified methodology led him to create Yogilates in 1997 as an ideal pathway to optimal fitness and health. The popularity and effectiveness of his work has been noted in newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, Shape, YogaJournal, FitYoga, Elle, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Village Voice, Newsweek, Self, Fitness, Allure, as well as international publications. Since then, it has been translated into German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. He has also produced and starred in eight yoga and Pilates workout videos.
Jonathan recently became certified as a Lifestyle & Weight Management Consultant through the American Council on Exercise, and has created a new lifestyle and fitness TV show called "Sexy Body Lifestyle" now looking for network distribution. He is also finishing a training and diet log that will include advice on lifestyle, fitness, and nutrition. He still considers himself a student, attending advanced teacher training workshops and seminars in yoga and Pilates around the country. He teaches regularly for Sports Club/LA and Reebok Sports Club in New York, where he also instructs on Pilates apparatus in the private studio setting. He is an avid presenter, teaching workshops and seminars all over the world, and is on staff at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies and Kripalu Center for Yoga.
